Building the digital marketplace for Kenyan freight

Freight is one of the least digitised parts of Kenya's economy — still run largely on brokers, phone calls, and offline relationships. PickApp is building the marketplace layer that sector has been missing.

The problem & the market

Trucking moves Kenya's economy, offline

Road freight moves the overwhelming majority of goods within Kenya, yet the sector remains dominated by informal, broker-led matching between shippers and truck owners. That means no standard pricing, no visibility into where a shipment is, and — perhaps most costly — no efficient way to match a truck to a return load. Our own market research (detailed in the investor deck) points to an industry-wide logistics cost premium in Kenya well above global benchmarks, driven largely by this inefficiency.

The product

A marketplace, not a call centre

PickApp matches shippers to verified truck owners across six vehicle categories — from motorbike parcels to 30-tonne containers — with a fixed base fare plus per-kilometre rate shown before booking. Payment runs through M-Pesa, and live GPS tracking is rolling out corridor by corridor as we onboard drivers. The platform is built deliberately, corridor by corridor, so every feature we advertise is genuinely working before we say it's live.

Traction

Early, deliberate, corridor-first

We're validating PickApp corridor by corridor rather than claiming national scale before the driver network exists to back it up. That means our first cohort of verified drivers, a growing set of completed validation trips, and early conversations with corporate shippers interested in our fleet management portal — building the operational discipline to scale responsibly rather than rushing to inflate early numbers.

Business model

Two revenue lines, one platform

Trip commission
PickApp retains an 11% commission on every completed trip fare, disclosed transparently to both shipper and driver.
Corporate subscriptions
PickApp Business offers a monthly subscription for manufacturers and distributors who need a fleet management dashboard.

Raising a seed round

We're raising a seed round via a SAFE note to fund platform development, driver onboarding, and expansion into new corridors. Request our investor deck for the full market analysis, financial model, and terms.
